The capital of Kosovo, the Municipality of Prishtina, since February of this year does not have an active project for the treatment of stray dogs through the CNVR method.
Although we and the citizens have been told several times that the procedure of contracting the economic operator for the CNVR project in Prishtina is in the process of signing, the project has not started yet and will not start soon, exactly at a time when dog reproduction on the streets is at its peak.
CNVR projects, if not implemented continuously, never achieve the desired effect, which is to reduce the number of dogs on the streets by stopping breeding.
On the other hand, citizens who complain to the police about a large number of dogs in their neighborhoods, for potentially aggressive dogs, and the police and citizens have nowhere to go, as the Municipality does not have an active project for this situation and so our organization and other activists have to deal with cases for which the Municipality is obliged to deal.
Poor animals are not at all to blame for being abandoned or even born on the streets, so it is (legally) up to local and central institutions to take humane measures to minimize the number of dogs on the streets.
We call on the Municipality of Prishtina to contract the veterinary entity / entities as soon as possible to start castration/sterilization and vaccination of stray dogs.
