Today, a protest was held in Ferizaj against the vanishing of stray dogs in this region.
The Municipality of Ferizaj has contracted the veterinary entity “AV Goni” with a tender of 89,000 euros, to treat stray dogs through the CNVR method (catch, neuter, vaccinate, release), but activists in the region of Ferizaj have raised suspicions about the disappearance of dogs, since the stray dogs they cared for were no longer in their territories.
The Municipality of Ferizaj, together with DVM Agron Pajaziti, have never been open for cooperation, nor have they provided us with access to the official documents of this project, acting in violation of applicable laws.
This protest follows the official announcement of our organization for the Basic Prosecution in Ferizaj, for our suspicions of unconscious provision of veterinary assistance and abuse of official position.
The country’s institutions must be transparent with the citizens, especially when it comes to spending public money. A municipality that gives big tenders, in addition to transparency, should strictly monitor the implementation of projects under applicable law, to ensure that public money is not being spent only to enrich the pockets of some individuals and that dogs are treated in the most humane and dignified way.
We thank the activists who have joined this protest, and we also heartily thank the media that have covered this action.
