Today, at the invitation of the Office of the Prime Minister, an inter-institutional meeting was held to discuss the situation with stray dogs, and urgent and long-term measures that must be taken to address this situation with a sustainable approach.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Mr. Albin Kurti, together with the ministers of the responsible ministries, have pledged to address this issue with the seriousness it requires, through the drafting of a national strategy, based on the proposal of our organization, submitted several months ago: https://bit.ly/2VRj4HI
Taking humane and effective measures to solve this problem requires close inter-institutional cooperation, both at the central and local level.
All actors pledged to act within their legal responsibilities, to take urgent measures to address the situation with stray dogs, including the identification and registration of dogs with keepers (owners), approval of the administrative instruction for the control of breeders of companion animals and CNVR projects.
Our organization, (with the support of partner organizations, StrayCoCo, LAV, ATB, Stumme Brueder, TIR) as part of civil society and as a member of the European association of animal protection organizations, “Eurogroup For Animals”, will support relevant institutions by instructing them to take humane and sustainable steps for effective and long-term solutions to this problem.
We will keep working to make sure that all relevant institutions will fulfill their legal commitments and obligations towards this issue, for the benefit of animals and humans at the same time.
