On #InternationalDogDay, we remember all the dogs in Kosovo, who are abandoned on the street by irresponsible keepers (owners), we remember the abuse these dogs suffer daily and are exposed to many dangers and extreme temperatures, without any protection from the state.
Also, we remember all the dogs that are kept in terrible conditions in households, spending their entire lives chained and locked up, and for which Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) has so far not expressed even the slightest interest in securing their well-being, even minimally.
On International Dog Day, we call on the FVA and the Ministry of Agriculture (MAFRD) to stop promoting measures that end in mass killing of street dogs, and do not focus on the real sources of the problem.
On this day, we call on all institutions at the central and local level, to engage with seriousness and urgency to manage the dog population, to prevent the increase in the number of dogs on the streets in a sustainable and humane way, to ensure maximum welfare of these animals, but also to provide safety for citizens, especially children.
