The public consultation organized by the Ministry of Local Government Administration (MLGA) was held to discuss the national strategy and action plan for the management and control of dogs with and without owners.
During this meeting, the draft strategy and action plan was presented, along with all the measures foreseen for humane and sustainable solutions to reduce the number of dogs on the street.
We thank all the participants who were present at the public consultation, and who raised important topics regarding the situation with dogs on the street.
However, it is concerning how some municipalities complain about dogs on the street and about the shortcomings of the CNVR projects, while most municipalities have never had monitoring and evaluation of the projects they have undertaken. Also, from this public discussion it was understood that municipal officials should be informed in detail about the legal responsibilities they have to manage the dog population, as well as about other measures that can be taken in addition to the CNVR, such as awareness-raising and information campaigns for citizens, as an extremely important measure to be taken to reduce the number of dogs on the street and avoid incidents between people and dogs.
The public consultation is open until August 18, therefore we encourage everyone who was not present at the consultation organized by MLGA, to read the draft strategy and send comments to the head of the working group, mrs. Teuta Fazliu, at the email address: teuta.fazliu@rks-gov.net.
