In February of this year, our organization published the investigative report of the Spanish NGO Equalia, which exposes the cruel treatment of poultry in one of the farms of the Italian producer “AIA”, which produces processed meat products “Wudy”.
The Food and Veterinary Agency has ordered the removal from the market of “Wudy” products (https://bit.ly/3C2uvP2), of the Italian brand “AIA”, due to the presence of “Listeria” bacteria in these products (https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/listeriosis).
Decaying birds can be seen being eaten by live birds; birds in agony; birds with various deformities and fractures, unable to stand up. Some birds can’t even reach the water bowl, which makes their suffering even worse. The images also reveal alleged abuse by staff, kicking and punching. The birds’ necks are also seen to be broken or their heads stomped to death.
The serious health problems of the birds shown in the video are due to the genetic hybridization that is carried out to achieve maximum growth in the shortest possible time. Fast-growing chicken breeds are more prone to the inevitable diseases that the industry very loosely refers to as “production diseases”. These health problems lead to a high use of antibiotics as a preventive measure, instead of their recommended therapeutic use.
Once again, it is being proven that the animal products industry is a cruel industry, which doesn’t spare neither animals nor people when it comes to financial gain. Animal welfare in farms and other animal housing facilities is almost non-existent. Although it has been proven many times that the mistreatment of animals and endangerment of their well-being seriously endangers the health of people, there is still a lot of work to be done in Kosovo for real control of animal keeping in homes, farms or factories.
