Bekim Shehi from the village of Vranica in Suhareka, is one of hundreds of animal abusers, who act freely abusing dogs in Kosovo.
In the video below, as seen, he commands his aggressive dog to attack a stray dog, causing him anxiety, terror and deadly injuries.
Unfortunately, Bekim Shehi is not the one and only who commits criminal offenses of animal cruelty according to Article 346 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.
Numerous criminals in all regions of Kosovo are involved in illegal organizations of dog fights where the physical power of animals (dogs) is tested, and on the other hand, although for all these dog fight organizations there are facts of criminal offenses, the Police and the Prosecution aren’t doing ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
Although our organization has until now filed dozens of criminal charges against organizing dog fights in Kosovo, so far the responsible state institutions have not taken any adequate measures to prevent this negative and abusive phenomenon.
On the other hand, the Kosovo Police is so unprepared to deal with these cases that every time we report a case, they try to ignore us and prolong the process as much as possible. In the calls with police officers, even the official emails for our necessary reports are reported incorrectly and without any thread of sensitivity for these cases. The dogs as victims of Bekim Shehi, cannot wait until the Kosovo Police wakes up from its deep sleep. The cases reported to the Prosecutor’s Office get lost and nothing is communicated to us about them. How can dozens/hundreds of stray dogs be saved from abusers and criminals like this? How can we convince the state that animal crimes in Kosovo are also important?
Dogs that are raised and trained their whole life to be aggressive, once they have completed their “mission” for their abusive owners, often end up on the streets, endangering humans and other animals, or end up killed by their own abusers, which the Kosovo Police and our Prosecutors allow to act freely and without any problem.
It is high time that law enforcement agencies take serious action to stop this phenomenon and bring the criminals to justice.
How long do we have to wait for the poor animals to be protected from this state? How many other animals must be victims of abusers before the state does its duties?
Our organization will address the highest instances of Kosovo Government, as well as the Prosecutional Council and the Kosovo Judicial Council, to raise our concerns for the high negligence of the mandated institutions to deal with crimes committed to animals.
Our organization will also organize a protest for the constant negligence that our institutions are showing in the face of animal rights and animal welfare. Details will be announced soon.
