Animal Rights Foundation Kosovo

Today, our organization was contacted by an activist to report that a dog fell in an open sewer pit in his neighborhood. The generous person heard early in the morning that a dog was stuck somewhere and needed help but did not find it until the way to the trapped dog was shown to him by another stray dog.

Our organization, due to lack of human and financial capacity, still does not deal with emergency assistance as in this case, but still in many such cases or dog injuries, helps either with financial assistance, or with assistance in organizing rescue or help for certain cases.

Today, thanks to the help of firefighters “Vatrogasci Llapne Seljo” and one of the members of our organization, the dog was helped to get out of the pit, although without special and adequate rescue equipment. Fortunately the pit was not very deep and the dog was successfully pulled out.

We are extremely grateful to the firefighters who have helped and are close to the citizens even in cases where animals need help.

Unfortunately, institutional or even private rescue services are lacking in Kosovo, so for many animals, the only help is when kind-hearted people help as much as they can.
Our organization is constantly working to establish these services and many other aspects within the municipalities of Kosovo or other responsible institutions, in order to create a serious and reliable system of rescue and protection of animals and not to leave the burden of responsibility in these cases (or other cases) only to activists or animal lovers.

Rescue of street animals should be addressed by the institutions of the country because only by addressing the issue of stray dogs seriously (in all areas necessary for intervention), we will see improvement of the situation.
