Animal Rights Foundation Kosovo

A while ago we reported on a disturbing case in Gjilan – the mistreatment of stray dogs and cats until death, by an individual who also threatened animal rights activists.

🚨 Latest developments: The Prosecutor’s office in Gjilan indicted the suspect for three crimes – mistreatment of animals, aggravated theft, and threat. However, we are concerned about passiveness of the responsible law enforcment bodies, since the perpetrator is still free and continues to commit criminal offenses as can be seen from the new video footage.

We have requested to the Basic Prosecutor’s Office and the Basic Court in Gjilan to take immediate action against the perpetrator. If the perpetrator suffers from any mental illness, he should be professionally screened, held for treatment, or jailed, but not set free to continue his crimes.

🔗 The link between animal abuse and human abuse is well documented. Individuals who abuse animals are statistically more likely to pose a risk to public safety. Our shared responsibility to protect the vulnerable also extends to animals, which cannot speak for themselves. By holding the perpetrator accountable, we not only protect innocent animals, but also the safety of the community.
