A few months ago, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Animal Rights Foundation and FVA, to update the animal register, to include the registration of companion animals, as provided by the legislation in force.
Under this cooperation agreement, our organization, with the support of the StrayCoco Foundation, has funded the addition of a component to the current FVA register, to include the registration of dogs with keepers/owners, as one of the necessary measures to fight one of the main sources of the increasing number of dogs on the street, which are abandonments by irresponsible owners.
The central register update has now been completed, and the registration of dogs with keepers/owners can begin after the FVA has contracted/authorized the veterinary entities and distributed the microchips with the national code.
We hope that the contracting of veterinarians will be done as soon as possible by the FVA and that the registration will start, because many months have passed since the approval of the Administrative Instruction for the registration of companion animals (https://gzk.rks-gov.net/ActDetail.aspx?ActID=37624)
The moment that the registration of dogs with keepers starts, we can say that Kosovo, although in very initial steps, is aiming to work effectively and sustainably to solve the stray dog situation (if the punitive measures are also applied according to the legislation in force).
Our job is to support and push these processes forward, because only with a serious and comprehensive approach can the problem of stray dogs be solved.
