On World Wildlife Day, together with the Parliamentary Committee on Environment, Food, Agriculture, Planning and Development and the BEAR SANCTUARY Prishtina, we signed a memorandum of cooperation to improve and advance the legal and policy-making framework for the illegal trade in wildlife , as well as for the protection and conservation of wild species and raising awareness for the conservation of biodiversity in the Republic of Kosovo.
Through this cooperation, all three parties will be committed to meet the following objectives:
– Identification of legal gaps and discrepancies in current legislation
– Proposing changes and legal supplements for animal protection
– Proposing draft laws in accordance with international and EU standards
– Engaging in the membership of the Republic of Kosovo in the CITES Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Flora and Fauna and fulfilling the obligations of this convention.
– Organizing awareness campaigns for the protection of wild animals and their habitats
Many thanks to the Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Environment, Food, Agriculture, Planning and Development, Mrs. Fitore Pacollin, for her readiness to cooperate for the improvement of wildlife protection policies in Kosovo and we look forward working to advance the processes of becoming part of CITES and the legal protection of wildlife in Kosovo, as it is extremely necessary.
Very soon we’ll take other concrete steps and expect concrete actions from other relevant institutions to prevent the captive of wild animals and their illegal and uncontrolled trade.
