According to the portal “Peja ne Fokus”, there have been recent incidents of poisonings targeting stray dogs in the city of Peja. We want to emphasize that this is not just a cruel and inhumane act, but it is also a criminal offense. Poisoning these innocent animals is not the solution to reducing the number of dogs on our streets.
It’s heartbreaking to see that mostly friendly and harmless dogs are suffering the consequences of such a horrendous crime.
One of the glaring issues is that the municipality of Peja has not had a dog treatment project in place for years even though in the last meeting during the summer it promised to start with the CNVR as soon as possible and yet nothing is there. The absence of initiatives like spay/neuter campaigns for stray dogs has allowed them to reproduce freely.
Consequently, many dogs suffer from various illnesses, and it’s painful to witness so many of them with horrible skin conditions on our streets. This horrible condition also might irritates the community and gives them no hope that the Municipality of Peja is actually doing something to stop the stray dog reproduction.
We call upon the municipality of Peja to take immediate action by starting the projects that aim to control the reproduction of stray dogs (CNVR), promote Identification & Registration of dogs with keepers and start an awareness raising campaign for the community. These initiatives are crucial not only for the well-being of stray dogs but also for the overall health and safety of our community.
Furthermore, we urge the authorities to investigate and bring the perpetrators of these crimes to justice. Such actions cannot go unpunished, as they harm not only our four-legged friends but also our community’s reputation. We urge the community to report these acts to the law enforcement institutions and demand action and justice for the animals.
We will also send a report to the Police and officially ask them to act!
