Follow the interview in #KallxoPernime of Mrs. Helen Wormser, Director of the Swiss Foundation StrayCoCo which has been operating in Kosovo since 2015 helping stray dogs on the streets with sterilization treatments, vaccinations and other treatments, and which has tried for several years to convince the institutions of our country for a sustainable and efficient control of stray dogs and the sources of their increase.

The StrayCoCo organization has helped our organization to start-up by advising and assisting financially in some of the organization’s activities and by helping us to increase the network of foreign partners to support our important work for legal changes and effective implementation of laws in Kosovo.

The StrayCoCo organization has made many veterinarians aware of ethical and professional work regarding companion animals (especially dogs) and has invested a lot in building infrastructures so that animals can find dignified treatment and adoption in good families in Kosovo and outside Kosovo.

Ms. Wormser tells us in the interview how we should approach the problem with stray dogs and clearly states that without addressing the source of the problem such as the abandonment of dogs and puppies and breeding from dogs with handlers/owners roaming freely, the situation will not improve and there will always be dogs on the street.

The Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) since July 2021 has promised to deal with the registration of dogs with keepers/owners to control the situation with the dogs on the street, but so far nothing has started. Everything goes extremely slowly and if the implementation of such a simple project does not start, imagine the other more complicated measures that require full institutional concentration and dedication (for the implementation of the National Strategy).
