⚠️ Violence against animals brings more incidents and must be stopped!
On May 21, 2023, in the courtyard of the National Library in Pristina, for unknown reasons, a stray dog was shot dead by an unknown person. This incident serves as a stark reminder that animal cruelty has far-reaching consequences. Violence disrupts the delicate balance within their herd, creating an atmosphere of fear and stress that can lead to unexpected incidents.
The case has been reported to the Police by animal lovers and our organization has also demanded an account from the Police to understand who is firing firearms in the middle of the Capital without any responsibility.
Potentially aggressive dogs MUST be reported to the Municipality of Pristina so that the economic operators contracted by the Municipality go to the scene to remove any stray dog with aggressive behavior towards people from the street, but the dogs must not be allowed to be killed out of frustration or prejudice against stray dogs.
The constant abuse of dogs, not only in the Municipality of Pristina but also in other municipalities, is causing the animals to be traumatized and not have healthy relationships with people. Police, Municipalities and KFVA still do not deal seriously and substantively with these problems, since they do not have enough staff and some institutions do not have knowledge of their legal obligations to guarantee health and well-being for animals and people. The media (with few exceptions) still report blaming dogs for the problems rather than focusing on the source of all problems.
Some key points to remember:
- Violence breeds violence: Injuring animals creates fear and aggression, increasing the likelihood of further incidents in our community.
- Stray animals deserve compassion: These dogs are victims of human abandonment and it is not their fault they are on the streets. They rely on us to be their voice and protect them.
- Education and Awareness: Information about responsible companion animal keeping (ownership) and advocacy for spay and neuter programs address the root cause of stray animal populations.
- Promoting adoptions: Encouraging adoption opportunities for stray animals offers them a chance for a loving home.
In this difficult situation, we must come together as an empathetic community to create a safer environment for both humans and animals, and that means speaking out against violence against stray animals.
