The foreseeable and worst initiative, which is proudly being published by the Municipality of Prizren – for the construction of a shelter, is totally erroneous. We call for more perseverance and professional conviction, that Mayor of Prizren Mytaher Haskuka, will respect the following:

  1. Do not encourage the construction of a shelter that would isolate stray dogs for the rest of their life – this comes from the experience of other shelters in Kosovo – that left isolate dogs without any institutional and professional management.

The Program for the Management and Control of Stray Dogs in Kosovo, applies the program: CAPTURE – NEUTER – VACCINATE – RELEASE. Their release should be done by professional “catchers”. The dogs should be released in the place where they grew up. WE do not have the institutional or professional capacity to keep dogs in the shelter for the time being in Kosovo. Furthermore, 35,000 euros is too little for treating all stray dogs in Prizren. It would not suffice even for the proper construction of the eventual wastewater sewage manhunt – think about how other things would be
managed within it.

Potential solutions we suggest:

  1. ADVERTISING the Stray Dog Management and Control Program – according to the criteria that the Food and Veterinary Agency has specified, applying the CNVR program.
  2. With € 35,000 can be created improvised outpatient centers that would assist dogs after their treatment from the above-mentioned program.
  3. To create working groups to help raise citizen awareness in order to establish peaceful relationships between dogs and people.

In conclusion: the fund in question can be spent on things that GUARANTEE THE SUSTAINABILITY in the situation – and not for creating a country as a death camp for our wandering dogs!
