The municipality of Pristina has contracted four (4) economic operators/veterinary ambulatories to treat stray dogs with the CNVR method (catch, neuter/sterilization, vaccination, release):
1. Veterina 1 – with veterinarian DVM Shefki Ajdini
2. “Crazy Pet” – with veterinarian Dardan Pozhegu
3. “North Animal Hospital” with veterinarian Zenel Zhabari
4. Animal Treatment Center (Qendra për Trajtim të Kafshëve) with veteriarian Taulant Kastrati
These veterinarians will work in all regions of Pristina, including other neighboring villages and municipalities, since the Municipality of Pristina has allocated a large budget for this aspect (details of which will be posted soon as well). The implementation of such a large project is very positive since there has never been a continuous CNVR project, including the villages of Pristina, since most of the dogs that are abandoned in Pristina come from different villages or other municipalities. However, our organization has already received some complaints about the progress of the project in question and unfortunately, the Municipality of Pristina has not informed us about the start of this project. In any case, we will start monitoring the project in the field as we were informed for its start only because of some irregularities with some dogs for which we wait for the answers from the responsible officials in the Municipality until Monday, for the suspicious cases that happened just lately in Pristina during the treatment of stray dogs. Everything will be made public. Therefore, the project in question must be monitored carefully and with great vigilance, and for this reason we call on all citizens to:
a. photograph and document their neighborhood dogs in case they have eartags as dogs with eartags should not be taken for castration or sterilization because it means they’re already neutered. They can only be taken for vaccination, but in any case, the dogs must be returned to the neighborhood/community very quickly. If community/neighborhood dogs (that are sterilized and with an ear tag) are missing for more than 2 days, please notify us immediately at info@animalrights-rks.org or here on Facebook or Instagram.
b. if the dogs in the neighborhood are not treated, it means without ear tag, please contact the Municipality of Pristina at the emergency number: 080012233 or 080012244 or our organization to notify the Municipality for intervention. If the neighborhood dogs do not return within 5-7 days, please contact us and the Municipality!
c. Aggressive and sick dogs must be reported to the Municipality of Pristina, to maintain public health and safety. We ask citizens not to take cruel steps towards animals such as poisoning, killing with weapons or any other means that injures the animals. Contracted vets are tasked with coming to pick up the dogs that pose a risk to human safety.
We also call on the Kosovo Police, who we will officially inform that the project has started and to cooperate with the municipality’s veterinarians in any case that is announced as urgent, in case of aggression and NOT TO KILL ANIMALS with weapons, as it just happened recently in Prishtina. Killing animals with guns is cruel and unnecessary as there are medical (humane) methods to kill an animal, such as the medical euthanasia. For our organization, no killing of animals is humane, but in emergency cases euthanasia should be used instead of cruel killings with weapons and other methods.
Our organization calls on the citizens of Pristina and surrounding municipalities to take care of the dogs in their neighborhoods and be very attentive!
Moreover, our organization calls for cooperation in monitoring the project in question. Our organization is in cooperation with the Municipality of Pristina to monitor the project in question and if anyone is interested in helping us in monitoring, please let us know at info@animalrights-rks.org to receive a short training on the work of monitoring and sign a simple agreement that respects the principles and work of the organization.
If you wish to monitor the project independently and not in cooperation with our organisation, please just write to the email addressess of the contract managers of the Municipality: seniha.bajraktari@rks-gov.net and habib.qorri@rks-gov.net and ask them to grant you an authorisation to visit the veterinarians treating dogs and everything related to the public projects.
The more people who monitor, the better!
