The video in the article below is a good example of the consequences of the lack of information campaigns regarding dog behaviors and their nature in general.
What is presented in the video and article as an “attempt to attack”, from the body language of the dogs, it is clearly seen that it is nothing more than a desire for play and attention from the dogs.
The people in the video, in the absence of knowledge about the behavior and nature of dogs, begin to cause panic and get scared. Such actions in this situation are unnecessary and may escalate the situation which may even end in an attack. All this is due to the lack of information, since the country’s institutions have never carried out awareness campaigns to inform citizens about dog behavior and to remove a fear that is unreasonable in most cases.
If human behavior continues to be ignored as the most important part of dog population dynamics, the situation with dogs on the street will continue to remain the same, as this situation is a direct consequence of human behavior due to abandonment, uncontrolled breeding, use of dogs for fights with other dogs, mistreatment and intimidation of street animals, etc.
With proper information of the citizens, many unpleasant or dangerous situations can be avoided. The institutions of the country must urgently engage in the initiation of information campaigns, which would lead to a reduction of incidents due to the lack of information.
We hope that the national strategy for the management of the population of dogs with and without an owner will be approved as soon as possible by the Government of Kosovo and that the measure of education and information regarding the population of dogs will be started as soon as possible.
