🐾🌍 Today, on World Animal Day, we take the opportunity to re-emphasize the extraordinary importance of animals on our planet, from companion animals to animals in farms, to wild animals. 🐶🐻🐄
🦮 Companion Animals: We must also acknowledge that the breeding of companion animals must stop. The heartbreaking reality that many stray dogs and cats endure is devastating. By being homeless, they are exposed to unspeakable conditions that endanger their welfare and quality of life.
The plight of these animals is a call to action. It’s a stark reminder that we must do more as a society and as individuals to control companion animal keeping and prevent the abandonment of these animals.
🏢 Institutions must play a crucial role in this effort by introducing responsible animal keeping regulations, promoting spaying/neutering programs, and providing support for abandoned animals.
🐄 Animals used in farms: It’s a sad reality that many animals used in farms endure horrific conditions, living in cramped spaces and facing cruelty. Moreover, the livestock industry significantly contributes to climate change. 🌍 Factory farming practices not only harm animals but also harm our planet. The meat industry is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and water pollution. We must address these issues for the sake of animals and our environment. The power to make a difference is on our plates. Choosing a plant-based diet and reducing our meat consumption can significantly lower our carbon footprint, reduce the demand for factory farming, and improve the lives of millions of farm animals.
🌳 Wild Animals: The wonders of the wild world remind us of the importance of biodiversity. Protecting their habitats, combating poaching & hunting, and advocating for conservation efforts are crucial. Support organizations dedicated to preserving wildlife and their natural habitats.
🙌 We must all work together, as individuals and institutions, to ensure that every animal is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.
Education and legislative changes are crucial for better protection of animals. By raising awareness and advocating for stronger animal welfare laws, we can create lasting positive change.
UPDATE:
On October 4, together with the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure (MESPI) 🌿🏢 and the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI) 📚🔬, we marked the World Animal Day 🌍🐾 by visiting the park of Blinaja, which is home to several species of wild animals. 🦌🐗
During the marking of this day, we emphasized again the need for a much greater institutional commitment for genuine protection of animals, as well as the need for the advancement of the legal framework and the creation of conditions for the genuine implementation of laws dedicated to the protection of animals – whether they are companions, animals in farms, or wild animals. Also, together with the participants 🤝, we have agreed that awareness-raising and education are essential measures to ensure dignified treatment and protection of animals in Kosovo. 🇽🇰
⚖️🔍 Our organization is working on analyzing the legal framework, precisely to send to the relevant institutions during 2024, all our proposals regarding the advancement of laws and by-laws 📝📈, since the obsolescence and lack of some legal acts, means that animals are endangered and not properly protected.
🙏 We thank MESPI and MESTI for marking this day, and we hope that in the future, the institutions, together with civil society, will work closely to advance animal rights and environmental protection in Kosovo. 🐾🌱
